Video Marketing

8 best platforms for online video advertising (besides Facebook and Instagram)

Omni-channel marketing strategies enjoy 13.56% more engagement than their single-channel counterparts, which makes stretching your ad budget across multiple channels an absolute must for businesses who want to maximize their ROI. Along those same lines, 60% of those who utilize online video advertising (including advertisers, marketers, and publishers) in their omni channel strategy are seeing more click throughs (2-3x), conversions (20-30%), and long term brand recognition than with their non-video versions. Which means combining the two (omni channel marketing and video advertising) has the potential to give you some serious bang for your buck.

If you haven’t started using video for your Facebook and Instagram advertising, learn more about the best practices for their video platform here. But if instead you’re looking to expand your multi channel strategy, then take a look at these top online video advertising sites and apps.

1. YouTube

Mobile video ads on YouTube capture the attention of 83% of viewers – a whole 38% more than tv commercials do. The best performing ads on this platform typically have a strong YouTube channel to keep users engaged when they click through, so be sure to post at least one new video every other week. Also, since ads on this social video platform by nature offer more relationship building opportunities than direct sales ones, remember to include the following KPI’s in your ad goal setting: views, view rates, number of branded videos watched after seeing the ad, and likes/shares/comments on the ad itself.

2. Twitter

Video is Twitter’s fastest growing digital advertising platform, with an engagement rate 10 times higher than the average text or photo ads. Win over more viewers by keeping your content to 30 seconds or less and optimize it for mobile (where 93% of all Twitter video watching takes place).

3. LinkedIn

According to real world case studies, successful video advertising on LinkedIn could net you a roughly 34% view rate! Because 80% of all videos watched on LinkedIn are seen with the sound off, you should make sure your ad communicates the main idea through text and captions. As far as the actual content goes, experts say your LinkedIn video marketing will be successful as long as you choose one of the following topics: industry knowledge, trending news, live or digital event promotions and highlights, brand values, and new product launches.

4. Pinterest

Brands who use video advertising on Pinterest are seeing increases in brand awareness (20%), purchase intent (33%), and product association (23%). An eye-tracking study conducted by Neurons found that the best performing video content on ad platforms either shared practical instructions (like a recipe or cleaning hack) or an entertaining brand story (like the history of a family-owned business or the shocking inspiration for a new product line). The best performing ads ranged from 6 to 20 seconds in length.

5. Snapchat

Did you know that Snapchat video ads reach 70% of all 13 to 34 year-olds in the U.S.? If you want to maximize your investment on this platform, keep your tone playful and try out some sequenced messaging campaigns to help drive traffic.

6. Google Ads

Google display banners that include videos receive 73% more clicks than those without. Encourage more engagement by choosing the right ad type for your goals (not all of them serve the same purpose). Also, make your video ad extra memorable by putting your brand, product, or service in the very first 5 seconds.

7. TikTok

About 90% of TikTok’s 800 million (or more) users watch videos on the app multiple times a day. Because they’re skippable, in-feed native video ads on TikTok work best when you grab user attention with sound and brightly colored images within the first few seconds. And make sure to find the category that best suits your objectives since only one brand can advertise per category on any given day.

8. Tumblr

Of all the social media platforms that exist, Tumblr provides the #1 best social media site for positive user sentiment towards brands. Take advantage of all the good feels with video ads that are vertical, end in a clear CTA, and look great when looped (sponsored ads are autoplayed and looped on user dashboards). And because a large part of their audience is made up of artists, you’ll want to make sure you’re only sharing your most creative ideas on this platform.
